Beginnings

Welcome! "Awen" is the welsh word meaning "a fire in the head", or divine inspiration. While this term is often referenced in terms of poetry, I believe that we can receive divine inspiration from the spirits (gods, etc.) on a number of subjects. I therefore feel that this blog's name, the Awen Sanctuary, is appropriate because I want to collect a writings on spiritual ideas based on my personal meditations and discussions with other peoples. My goal is to develop a belief system that will serve as a way of life, rather than simply a religion.

My personal path is complicated. I often call myself "pagan" because I feel my beliefs are more earth-based and alternative to main stream religions. In fact, I more often describe myself as being a follower of Druidism since I feel a strong connection to the Celtic traditions. However, I do not relate exactly to the modern Druid or pagan societies (although there is nothing wrong with them, just not my thing). I do not do rituals or spells, cast circles, or draw down the moon, but instead follow a more "shamanistic" lifestyle of communing with nature, energy work, doing shamanic journeys, and dreamwalking. I do not believe that Druidism and Shamanism are that different, though (at least not in Druidism's original forms). I believe in looking for answers, studying this world, honoring the earth and the turning of the seasons.

So, this blog is going to be a daily meditating blog rather than a strict content blog on paganism, etc. since I do not follow one textbook-defined path. In fact, you will often notice that I am looking for the connections between all religions, not just the differences.
